05 Dec FoxTrail WRS 2016/2017; Race Two 10K, Results
The second race of the series was not one to disappoint! Our record number of runners donned head torches and tartan alike to take part in the night Time 10K. A favourite for many of our runners the event this year was taken one step further with the addition of the Saltire Festival theme with the race marking the start of East Lothian’s Saltire week.
And what can we say… you lot look good in a bit o’ tartan!
The race kicked off in our disco tent, and with a private light show and DJ this was a warm up like no other! Led by the Fitness Soul team the runners were marched 500 miles to get the muscles warm for the race. The conditions were cold on the evening with the route promising to be firm underfoot the potential for a course record was within reach.
Once the warm up was completed the tent was teaming with 200 eager runners, headtorches alight, channelling into the starting pen. A short piece on the bagpipes by our young piper was followed by the starters horn and they were off.
With the route being a 5KM loop that was run twice the spectators in the disco tent were in prime position to rally on the runners at the halfway point. When the first runner came through at only 18 minutes we knew we were onto a fast one. The pack looked strong through the half way point with the blue and white war paint adding a daring streak to the runners smiles.
First loop of the course completed, the runners had a better idea of what to expect and where to save the energy or push harder. The finish line came around quickly for the leading runners with the first male finishing in a time of 37.32 and the first female hot on his heels with a time of 40.52.
We would like to say a massive thank you to all runners that took part in this race and made it such an event to remember. And to East Lothian Council as part of the Saltire Week for the massive support that literally ‘lit up’ the event!
